Masjid Cahaya Pagi

A small community mosque with no dome and no minaret — a raised brick room where a single roof oculus tracks the five daily prayers across the floor.

The brief from the community was short: room for two hundred, cool without fans, and built by local hands within a modest budget raised over three years.

The plan is a simple square lifted half a metre above the lane, wrapped in a perforated brick screen made from the same clay as the surrounding houses. Air enters low through the screen and leaves high through the roof lantern, so the hall stays still and cool even at midday.

Above, a single circular opening throws a disc of light onto the floor. It sits near the mihrab at Subuh, crosses the hall through the day and reaches the rear wall at Maghrib — the only ornament the building has.
