A two-storey neighbourhood library on a 4-metre-wide gap between houses, built for the price of a small car.

The plot was an unusable alley the neighbourhood association had been maintaining for years. Four metres wide, eighteen deep, and overlooked on both sides.

The section does the work: a full-height void along one edge brings light down to the ground floor and lets the two levels share a single fan. Shelving is structural, doubling as bracing for the light steel frame.

Built with volunteer labour over seven weekends, using standard block, off-the-shelf steel sections and plywood. Nothing in it needs a specialist to repair.
